5th Generation & Family Owned

Though our faces are young, our history is not! Our generation is the fifth to continue being caretakers of the land and of livestock. Our family began farming years ago, probably when they first immigrated to the country. In 2021 we began the transition from the latest generation to us, and in 2022 we labeled our operation as M & Em Farms! Though you'll mostly see our names around here, know the transition is still in progress and that there are many helping hands (and dogs) behind our operation that makes it all possible!

ABOUT M & EM FARMS

Our name became a 'thing' in 2021 when we, Marty and Emily, got married. Ever since then we have been 'M and Em' which gave life to a new farm name! Marty's family has been farming for years in the Mahnomen area, raising grains and livestock. Today, we carry on that legacy with a small operation of a couple thousand acres, 150 head cow-calf operation, as well as a backgrounding and finishing program (raising beef cattle), and a few pigs. Though our primary focus is on the livestock and crops, we run a diverse farm that includes retail meat sales, custom baling and wrapping, seed sales, and registered Black Angus breeding stock! Part of our long term goal is to reach out beyond our local community to provide fresh meat directly to the homes of Americans! Browse around to see what we can provide for you from our farm to your table.

About our Animals

We run a cow-calf and finishing operation that leaves a few hundred head of cattle running around our farm. We run a heard of primarily Black Angus that's been carefully bred and selected for meat production. Each animal we sell for meat is born and raised on our farm! Our cattle graze the neighboring pastures all summer long and politely put up with Minnesota winters around the yard. Upon weaning, our calves are moved to the finishing program where they are fed specific rations of beet pulp, corn, forages, and mineral to create consistent quality beef. We choose to use corn as part of our finishing ration for optimal marbling that yields tender, moist and flavorful beef!

We also run a small farrow-finish pig operation, solely for the purpose of providing fresh pork to the local community. Our pigs are raised non-confinement with plenty of space to run around. They have access to the outside world as well as a cozy pile of straw, and free choice feed. We raise our pigs also using a specific ration that contains corn, soybean meal/dry distillers, and mineral, that lends itself to moist, flavorful and tender pork!

Our latest addition to our livestock is a small herd of registered Black Angus cows. We are currently raising and selling the bulls to provide quality breeding stock to other cattle farmers. See our 'MEM Angus' page to learn more!
